How Intentional Living Inspired our Brand & Products

One of the first things I did as I tried to be more present and intentional was to simplify my life. The most obvious place to start was, of course, my external environment.

I have always known that our surroundings have a noticeable effect on our mood, productivity and creativity. However, I never truly appreciated this profound connection until I read Gretchen Rubin’s book “Outer Order, Inner Calm” (which I highly recommend).

This quote stuck out to me:

The point of cultivating habits for continuous clutter-clearing isn’t to achieve some particular level of perfection. It’s to create an environment where we can feel, 'I have plenty of room for the things that are important to me. I can find those things, I can see them, and if something new comes into my life, I have room to expand.'

When we hear the term “minimalism”, we often think that we need to get rid of everything in our lives. For me personally, however, minimalism is living with intention and surrounding yourself with things that make your life more abundant and fruitful.

I was on a mission to simplify the product I used daily. After getting rid of the unnecessary products I bought simply because it was 70% off at a clearance sale, life immediately felt a lot lighter.

Since I was intentionally using only products that I enjoyed, even the most mundane tasks like getting ready for work or taking a shower became moments that I looked forward to. I couldn’t wait to put on my favorite white shirt (paired with my favorite pair of jeans), or enjoy the smell of eucalyptus from my shampoo while washing my hair after a good sweat session.

As superficial as it sounds, the products we use and surround ourselves with have an impact on how we feel throughout the day. These small changes in life added up and made me a much more joyful and grateful person.

Hence, the inspiration for Fig & Olive…
